Substance Prioritisation

"Compilation and review of quantitative usage information concerning the various substances on the prioritised shortlist "

This section includes a questionnaire concerning the area of review. Stakeholders are requested to base their submissions on this questionnaire including as much comprehensive information as possible.

The purpose of this task is to provide input concerning quantitative usage data for the 23 priority substances in EEE identified by the Austrian Umweltbundesamt GmbH, or where this is not possible, a magnitude ranking, with a view to a refined prioritisation for future review cycles.

The Priority list of substances

The following list is a result of the work of the Austrian Umweltbundesamt GmbH, published February 2014. Further details can be found under this link.

Eight substances were identified to be of highest priority:

1.     Di-(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) *

2.     Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) *

3.     Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) *

4.     Diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP) **

5.     Tris(2-chloroethyl)phosphate

6.     Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) *

7.     2,3-dibromo-1-propanol

8.     Dibromoneopentyl-glycol

Four substances were identified to be of the second highest priority:

9.     Antimony trioxide

10.  Diethyl phthalate (DEP)

11.  Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) and

12.  Medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCP)

One substance  was classified to be of the third highest priority

13.  Poly vinyl chloride (PVC)

Five substances were identified to be of the fourth highest priority:

14.  Beryllium metal

15.  Beryllium oxide (BeO)

16.  Nickel sulphate

17.  Nickel sulfamate (=Nickel bis sulfamidate)

18.  Indium phosphide

Four substances were identified to be of the fifth highest priority:

19.  Di-arsenic pentoxide; (i.e. Arsenic pentoxide; Arsenic oxide)

20.  Di-arsenic trioxide (i.e. Arsenic trioxide)

21.  Cobalt dichloride

22.  Cobalt sulfate

Two substances were identified to be of the sixth highest priority:

23.  Cobalt metal

24.  Nonylphenol.

* This substance has been reviewed by the Austrian Umweltbundesamt GmbH. Please see information compiled for substance in the Substance specific Dossiers listed below. If you would like to submit further information concerning the quantity usage aspects of one of these substances, please see the information compiled by the Austrian Umweltbundesamt GmbH referred to below.

** A substance assessment is being prepared for DIBP as part of this project. Please see information compiled in the substance Dossier concerning applications and quantities of use under the DIBP section (link).

For background information for the various substances of interest, as well as an initial compilation of quantity usage data, please see the Excel-file in the questionnaire section.
